Here is today’s update regarding the spread of COVID-19 in the United States.

  • US Residents Tested: 3,698,534
  • US Confirmed Cases: 741,840 (+24,514)
  • US Recovered: 56,510
  • US Deaths: 38,861 (+1,493)
  • US Death Rate: 5.2%

Good News: The overall US death rate remained stable at 5.2%. The seven-day moving average of the cumulative case doubling period lengthened to 15.6 days. The seven-day moving average of the doubling period for deaths in the United States lengthened to 9.7 days.

Based on today’s number of confirmed cases and the current doubling period, here are today’s projections if nothing changes and the doubling period remains constant:

  • May 4 – 1.5 million cases
  • May 20 – 3.0 million cases
  • June 4 – 5.9 million cases
  • June 20 – 11.9 million cases

Based on today’s cumulative number of confirmed deaths and the current doubling period, here are today’s projections if nothing changes and the doubling period remains constant:

  • April 28 – 78,000 deaths
  • May 8 – 155,000 deaths
  • May 18 – 311,000 deaths
  • May 27 – 622,000 deaths

Good News: The seven-day moving average for the global confirmed case doubling period increased to 19.4 days. The global death rate fell for the first time. Based on today’s cases and the current doubling period, here are the projections for the world if nothing changes and the doubling period remains constant:

  • May 8 – 4.7 million cases
  • May 27 – 9.4 million cases
  • June 16 – 18.9 million cases
  • July 5 – 37.7 million cases

  • Georgia Confirmed Cases: 18,301 (+632)
  • Georgia Cases Currently Hospitalized: 3,464 (18.9%)
  • Georgia Deaths: 687 (+14)
  • Georgia Death Rate: 3.8%

Bad News: Both the seven-day moving average of the doubling period for confirmed cases and for deaths in Georgia shortened. Good News: The death rate remained stable at 3.8%
